PTW STUDENT JOHN ALLYN AS "MICHAEL" IN PETER PAN LIVE ON NBC
PTW student John Allyn ‘s feet may never touch the ground! Fresh from the Thanksgiving Day Parade in Manhattan where he performed with the cast of NBC’s Peter Pan Live, our PTW performer will star as Michael in the new live production of Peter Pan which was broadcast live on NBC TV, December 4, 2017. John also appeared in The Making of Peter Pan Live which aired on November 26th showing the whole cast’s journey from auditioning to mounting the full production. A poignant moment in the broadcast was when John learned he was cast in Peter Pan. After John delivered his callback audition, star Allison Williams posed the question, “Does the idea of flying…does that sound fun to you?” Williams continued, “Does the idea of learning how to fly with me sound like fun?” What a way to learn he had just landed the role of a lifetime.
John Allyn's PTW Training: John Allyn was first introduced to PTW through an after school enrichment class at Deerfield, his elementary school. Taught by longtime PTW instructor and Broadway veteran, Cathy Trien (who understudied for Bernadette Peters in the Broadway production of Gypsy, starred on Broadway in Grease and was featured in the national TV show Honey I Shrunk the Kids), John’s first taste of PTW left him wanting more. He began private voice lessons in the spring of 2014 and enrolled in the 2014 Summer Theater Conservatory Broadway Showcase. John’s PTW training includes studies in Jazz and Hip Hop with Jordan Fife Hunt who has recently performed in national tours of A Chorus Line and On the Town. He has also studied with Beth Southard who played Christine in Phantom of the Opera on Broadway, and PTW veteran instructor, Brian Loeffler who took a hiatus from his teaching duties when Broadway called. Loeffler served as Dance Captain for Grease on Broadway and later returned to PTW where he continues training, inspiring and choreographing our promising students like John Allyn. John’s training in the PTW classes TV Acting and Comedy Improv were helped prepare him for the Peter Pan audition process. In addition to his PTW classes, John’s PTW instructors rallied around him throughout the audition process offering expert coaching to ensure his success.
Perfect Fit: Seven year old John really found a “theater home” at PTW where he was welcomed into the world of expertly tailored training in classes that put the student first, rather than the schedules. Since PTW divides class sections into levels of training rather than merely age groups, John was able to be challenged, unlike at his former performing arts school where he found himself in classes with students his own age, but not with his level of training. He felt like a fish out of water, but here at PTW, John continues to study and grow. He will be performing with his fellow PTW students in the special PTW Mid-Winter Broadway Showcase in New York City at Don’t Tell Mama on February 7th and 8th. PTW Pride: The entire PTW family, staff and students, congratulate John! We will all be watching on Thursday, December 4th as John flies into Never Never Land. We’re so excited, our feet may never touch the ground, either!
