PTW STUDENT JOHN ALLYN STARS AS MICHAEL IN NBC’S PETER PAN LIVE

PTW student John Allyns feet may never touch the ground! Fresh of the floats at The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade where he performed with the cast of Peter Pan Live, our PTW performer stars as Michael in the new NBC production, broadcast live on Dec. 4, 2017. John also appears in The Making of Peter Pan Live, which aired Nov. 26, showing the whole cast’s journey from auditioning to mounting the production. The broadcast depicts a poignant moment when John learns he’s been cast. After he delivers his callback audition, star Allison Williams asks, “Does the idea of flyingdoes that sound fun to you?” She continues, “Does the idea of learning how to fly with me sound like fun?” What a way to learn he had just landed the role of a lifetime!

The PTW Difference: John Allyn learned about PTW through an after school enrichment class at Deerfield Elementary in Millburn, led by longtime PTW instructor and Broadway veteran, the late Cathy Trien (Broadway: Gypsy [u/s Bernadette Peters], Grease; TV: Honey, I Shrunk the Kids: The TV Show). He soon began private voice lessons in spring 2014 and enrolled in the 2014 Summer Theater Conservatory Broadway Showcase. John’s current PTW training includes Jazz and Hip Hop classes with Jordan Fife Hunt (Broadway National Tours: A Chorus Line, On the Town). He has also studied with Beth Southard (Broadway: The Phantom of the Opera), and PTW veteran instructor, renowned choreographer and Broadway performer Brian Loeffler. John’s training in TV Acting and Comedy Improv classes helped prepare him for the Peter Pan Live audition process. In addition to the support they provided through each of his PTW classes, John’s PTW instructors rallied around him throughout the audition process, offering expert coaching and encouragement to ease his nerves and ensure his success.

The PTW Fit: Seven-year-old John really found a “theatre home” at PTW, where faculty, staff and fellow students welcomed him into the world of expert training that centers the student, not the schedule. Since PTW divides class sections into levels of training rather than merely age groups, John continued to feel challenged. In past experiences with other performing arts schools, he attended classes with students his own age, but not at his level of training. He felt like a fish out of water. But here at PTW, John continues to study and flourish. This February, he will perform alongside his fellow students for the PTW’s Mid-Winter Showcase at Don’t Tell Mama in Midtown Manhattan.

PTW Pride: The entire PTW family, faculty, staff & students, congratulate John! We will all be watching on Thursday, Dec. 4 as he flies into Never Never Land. We’re so excited, our feet may never touch the ground, either!

We would love to welcome your child into the PTW theatre family and help them on their own creative journey.
